Lunar New Year
A Celebration of Renewal, Strength, and Noble Tradition
As we welcome the Lunar New Year, we celebrate renewal, vitality, and the enduring cultural heritage of China. For centuries, the horse has symbolized strength, nobility, movement, and prestige — qualities deeply embedded in Chinese history and aristocratic life.
In this spirit, I am pleased to present an exceptional museum-quality sculpture from the Northern Qi dynasty (550–577 AD).

A Monumental Northern Qi Pottery Horse
Height: 60 cm | Width: 42 cm Thermoluminescence Tested
Provenance: Private Collection, Hong Kong; thence Netherlands
This rare and powerful Northern Qi pottery horse embodies the aristocratic cavalry culture of 6th-century northern China. Monumental in scale and refined in execution, it represents one of the most dynamic sculptural traditions of early medieval China.
The upright posture, sensitively modeled head, expressive saddle drapery, and traces of original polychromy combine to create a work of exceptional presence and authority.
Large-scale Northern Qi horses of this quality are seldom encountered on the market.
A Symbol of Strength and Forward Movement
The horse has long been associated with success, energy, and determined progress — making it a particularly meaningful work to present at the beginning of a new year.
