This rare and powerful Northern Qi pottery horse embodies the aristocratic cavalry culture of 6th-century northern China. Monumental in scale and refined in execution, it represents one of the most dynamic sculptural traditions of early medieval China.

The upright posture, sensitively modeled head, expressive saddle drapery, and traces of original polychromy combine to create a work of exceptional presence and authority.
