An Important Imperial Gilt-Bronze Avalokitesvara

Yongzheng Mark and Period (1723–1735)

Becker Antiques is pleased to present an important imperial gilt-bronze figure of Avalokitesvara, Qing dynasty, Yongzheng mark and period (1723–1735). Finely cast and richly gilded, the figure bears the seven-character inscription Da Qing Yongzheng nian jing zao and is distinguished by its serene expression, elegant proportions and exceptional refinement.

The sculpture was sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in 2014, lot 3059, and represents a rare and highly refined example of Buddhist sculpture from the Yongzheng period.
