This exceptional work reflects the refined aesthetic and technical mastery associated with early Ming court production.

The bodhisattva is depicted seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus base, his hands in dharmachakra mudra, holding lotus stems supporting the sword of wisdom and the sacred book. The face is sensitively modelled, with gently downcast eyes and a composed expression, framed by elaborate jewellery and a finely detailed crown.
|
The harmonious proportions, fluid drapery, and refined casting place this sculpture among the finest examples of early 15th-century Buddhist bronzes produced under Imperial patronage.

In summary, this finely cast gilt-bronze figure of Manjushri represents a rare and highly accomplished example of early 15th-century Imperial Buddhist sculpture. Bronzes of the Yongle period are widely regarded as the pinnacle of technical and artistic achievement in Chinese metalwork, distinguished by their exceptional casting, refined proportions, and luminous gilding.
|
The present work, with its elegant modelling, preserved surface, and original sealed base, stands firmly within this distinguished tradition. Sculptures of this calibre are seldom encountered on the market and are more typically held in major museum collections, underscoring both their rarity and enduring significance.
